Bell & Ross Leather Strap Fake Watches might be best known for its square, instrument-inspired watches, but there is a lot more to the brand than just that. Most interesting to HODINKEE are the Vintage WWI and WWII collections, which take styling cues from the early twentieth century but utilize them in ways that will appeal to the modern watch buyer. We first showed you the WWI Monopusher Chronograph Heritage when it debuted last year, but this week we spent some time around New York City with a pair of these vintage chronos and here is is a more in-depth look at this lesser-known Bell & Ross.
The Bell & Ross WWI Series Replica Watches defined by a handful of vintage-inspired details. First off are the angled wire lugs, which are really crucial for comfort with the WWI Monopusher. The case here is thick, at 15mm, though it looks and feels even thicker at first because of the relative simplicity of the watch. I’ll admit I was a little scared when I first picked the Monopusher up, thinking it would be way too thick for practical wear, but these lugs hold it relatively low on the wrist. As low as a 15mm thick and 45mm diameter case can sit, anyway.
Also shared across the WWI collection is the bezel-free case, which leaves the large, legible dial easy to read with no distractions. The Monopusher’s dial is extremely clear, with large 12 and 6 numerals as well as batons at the other hours. The subdials for the chronograph are oversized, taking up about as much space as they can without the curvature of the dial creating distortions. While the cases are polished, they don’t have that shiny feeling that can sometimes plague watches like this. There are two colorways, one more practical and faithful to real WWI-era chronographs and the other a more modern interpretation.
The first is the classic black and white combo that you’re probably used to seeing on pilot’s watches. The hands are bright white, as is most of the dial printing. The numerals, batons, and fill on the hour and minute hands, however, is tan Superluminova Bell & Ross Top Copy Watches that glows green. It seems a little strange that the chronograph hands and registers are totally lume-free though, since this is kind of the focus of the WWI Monopusher. A tan leather strap with contrast stitching and an “&” branded buckle finish things off.
